Love emails, anyone? Everyone?

I didn't get around to writing a Valentine's Day post, but today this article culled from my favorites got me thinking about how much Internet communication has certainly changed long-distance relationships.

I've written a longer post about it here, full of indiscreet questions that I'm sure some of you could answer...if you're game...

My love is not a big e-mailer. He keeps his written declarations of love to cards and the very occasional e-card.

The only old-fashioned, written letters I've composed in probably the last twenty years are letters to my friend in France when she's on vacation and has no access to a computer. Well, internet cafés and the like, but we both like writing letters.

As for love letters, I suppose I could write one now and then to my wife, but I feel poetry works better for that situation.

To me, love letters were always a bit useless when I was actually around the person in question. But maybe I just had a lot of long-distance relationships.

And yes, Randal, poetry works fine. It works great. Why don't you write me a poem? Not a love poem, of course...just a poem!

That would be a change from routine.

Well, I don't get that much cards since my Valentine from America came over to Norway and lives with me now. You might remember my Love Story?

Oh shit, I have to be creative? I'll see what I can come up with!

I think they could be considered useless if done consistently, simply because of the proximity and how technology has shrunk the world. I will say that now and then they're fine. I prefer poetry simply because I'd end up rambling which would kind of kill the original point of the letter. Maybe we get more jaded as our marriages gain in years.

I think that would be more than "maybe," Randal.

I wrote lots of love letters to hubby when we were in an on-off stage at the start of our relationship, and he wrote a few back. I've never dared look at them since then - I don't think I could face the embarrassment. MSN is the way to go, that's what I say!
