Yves Thuriès and Le Salon du Chocolat 2006

I've always wanted a pink chocolate shoe. And it was one of the many fabulous creations that tempted me at last year's Salon du Chocolat, which was the first event of its kind to be held in Rodez.

This year's edition will be held on Saturday November 24th and it should be a good chance to stock up on end-of-the-year gifts -- chocolates are a traditional cadeau in France, especially among colleagues and business acquaintances.

You will no doubt be able to admire some original creations, such as this saucisson au chocolat:

Don't worry, no pork was included!

Last year, I also got a chance to listen to one of the area's most famous chocolatiers, Yves Thuriès. Thuriès is also famous for his two restaurants in Cordes, Le Grand Ecuyer and Bistrot Tonin'ty, as well as his decidedly upscale cooking magazine.

Who knows how he does it all? Thuriès now has chocolate shops all over France, including one in Rodez -- which I believe is used in the photo on his "Points de vente" page. He has also expanded his chocolate business to England, Canada and Japan.

If this post hasn't satisfied your chocolate photo fix, spend a little time on the Thuriès chocolate site...

Hi Betty.
I'm a chocolate lover, so this is truly a post after my heart :-)

Thanks for visiting my blog and leading me here.

Que de bonnes choses sur ce salon...j'aime bien en faire un de temps en temps. Cela donne toujours une idée...en attendant je te souhaite une belle journée comme disait ton message dans le sourire et le soleil. A bientôt belle amie.

Mmmmm I luuuuurve chocolate! One of the best chocolate merchants in England is Hotel Chocolat. Do check them out next time you're in London - I'll do the same with Thuriès when I make it to Rodez ;-)

Ah, so hard to resist chocolate. Why is it that temptation is everywhere in France this time of year (well, any time of year, right)?

I get my fix my having my mom send me the magazine...one f the many things I missed since I moved to South Carolina...! I bet the salon was a lot of fun!

To all -- Yes, it was a fun occasion. I hope to make it back this year.

Tartelette -- I'm amazed to hear from someone in the USA who knows this magazine, even if you did live in France. I have some issues but unfortunately don't have the time to do that style of cooking very much. They are beautiful to behold, though.

I showed my daughter the shoe -- now she wants one.

In fact I was sorely tempted to buy my daughter one -- she loves pink and shoes, chocolate too! But it just seemed too pretty to eat.

I'll be there this year! And will hopefully be at the dinner catered by Francois Arnaud next Friday where every dish contains chocolate... white chocolate covered salmon, chocolate sauces, the list of dishes sounds amazing! Tempting you? :)

Actually, Bolder, I'm not that big of a chocolate fan...the salmon doesn't really do it for me! But I'm sure it would be great fun to go! Enjoy yourself!

Oh, Betty C., what a lovely chocolate sculpture! Yep, every girl should definitely have pink chocolate shoes. And if they make a pink chocolate Hermes Birkin, I'll be the first in line.

Salut,
Marjorie

Betty C,
I think you're right, you can't have your shoe and eat it too. There are some things that are just too beauftiful to eat and that is one of them. What a fun post.

These are fabulous pictures! I could never eat them~ What an amazing fete for the makers of these chocolate creations! There are so many talented people in the world....this really must have been a fun event to attend. Does this go on every year?

Thanks for all of the comments, Jann! I guess you're really catching up on your blog reading today.

Last year was the first "Salon du Chocolat" in Rodez, and the second edition is coming up this weekend. I'm not sure if I'll make it this time, though.

I found out on Internet that there are quite a few similar events around France at this time of year.
