That is just plain sad. I like to read your post Betty. You are very clever and interesting. Your former student from Olympia High...Anne L. Portland, Oregon.

You are lucky to live in the Aveyron a such good place to live.
Vous avez de la chance de vivre en Aveyron dans un endroit où il fait si bon vivre!
When I'm retired I gonna live in St Affrique a small city where I spend my summer holidays
Quand je serai à la retraite j'irai vivre à St Affrique une petite ville où je passe toutes mes vacances d'été
If the French retirement doesn't vanish of course.
Si la retraite française ne disparait pas bien sûr.
Waiting that I try to improve my English to speak English with the expats of Aveyron
en attendant j'essaie d'améliorer mon Anglais pour parler avec les expatriés de l'Aveyron

Thank you Kristana for your bilingual comment! It is nice that you see the expats as a positive opportunity to speak English, and not an invasion.

I hope you'll come back to my blog!

Hi Betty, I stumbled across your blog while doing a random google search. I was delighted to see that you too come from Olympia! I grew up there and am currently living in Quimper as an English language assistant in a few primary school and a lycée. Just wanted to say hello, from a fellow Olympian. :)

I found your blog through My Inner French Girl and that's a very nice photo except for one teeny, tiny, microscopic detail that I cannot put my finger on.

Meghan and Anne -- Thanks for leaving comments. Anne, I think you have sent me an email that I pathetically didn't reply to. Sorry about that -- but I'm glad you stop by my blog!

Meghan, I wish I had some contact information for you! I'm sure we'd have a lot to talk about.

Randal, I'm honored by your visit. Your blog is so clever that I didn't leave a banal comment...

Just self-indulgent ramblings. Please, if you visit again, comment!

At least that sign is more discreet than many of the MickeyD's in France! And really, when you're driving around the countryside in the middle of the afternoon, what else is open, if you need to stop?

Oh I know, Paris Parfait, but it is still kind of funny. BTW the "McDos" in question are about 20 KM away!
