Guessing Game: My Top Five Getaways

Getaway Number 1

My daughter is on two-week winter break already, and she's only been back at school for five weeks since Christmas. It's a pity I don't have any time off, because I'm feeling cabin-feverish.

If the weather cooperates next weekend, though, we hope to pull a little getaway. I'm looking for a new place, and have a nice idea thanks to Loulou.

In the meantime, here are some photos of my top five getaways. My ranking combined two criteria: how much I like a place, and how often I manage to get there.

Getaway Number 2

So this is not exactly a list of "my favorite places to go" or "the most beautiful sites I've ever visited." They're just places I get to on a somewhat regular basis, for various reasons, and that always perk me up and give me the feeling I've had a nice break from the everyday routine.

Getaway Number 3

Most of these locales are not that far-flung. My/our stays there range from day trips to weekends to short holidays. One is a city I go to for work, and I always come back rejuvenated and more aware of the world outside Aveyron.

Getaway Number 4

Convenience is a major factor in these getaway destinations. I always chuckle when friends back in the States tell me "oh, living in France, you must just go to Italy all the time!" or "I looked on the map and I see you're just a hop, skip and a jump from Provence!"

Getaway Number 5

They are always shocked when I tell them that I have never been to Italy, and that while Provence is within reach, it's a little out of my driving comfort zone considering the limited time I have available to travel around France.

Do you recognize any of my getaways?

I live in the Netherlands quite close to Belgium and Germany, but I hardly ever go there. Just once or twice a year. I am so happy where I am, and there is so much to see, that I rarely think about going anywhere else. I'm a creature of habit too, and once I am put, I have a tendency to stay put too.

One must be Paris and I think I recognize Albi. Montpellier too, perhaps?
Great game, Betty!

Loulou, that's hopelessly vague. Which is which? BTW I took one of the pictures with you!

I'll check back. I, of course, recognize nothing!

darn, I thought you would let me get away with being vague! :)
#1 is Montpellier
#4 is Paris
#5 is Albi

Is that correct?

Number one looks great. Isn't the last picture in Albi?

#3 Isle Saint Louis, Paris
#4 Jardins de Luxembourg, Paris

Some of our favorite getaways are the ones less than 2 hours drive from home.

Beautiful pictures. I suppose number 3 is of Paris. But I've never been to the south of France, so I don't recognize the others. I've got cabin fever too. Time to escape.

Is number 3 the Rodin Museum in Paris? That is my favorite museum and garden. It's just a stab but I wanted to play too.

Loulou is right on 1, 4 and 5

1 - Montpellier

4 - Paris (Champ de Mars)

5 - Albi

Any intrepid guessers for 2 and 3?

I guessed numbers 1 and 5, but didn't know the rest. But a getaway of any kind at the moment sounds divine...

Duchess -- You've got it there! I was going to maybe go down to Mèze on the Etang de Thau with my daughter this weekend, but I'm not sure how the weather is looking (sun is a must)
But then she got the chance to spend the weekend in Montpellier (number one getaway) with friends in an apartment, so I thought that sounded more fun for her. Now I'm thinking of trying to plan at least a dinner out for V-day -- hope I can still get a reservation!

OK, I do have to give the answers:

1.) Montpellier

2.) The Corrèze department near Collonges-le-Rouge

3.) London

4.) Paris

5.) Albi

Thanks for playing!

I didn't recognise London (would have guessed) but I did recognise Paris - I have an almost identical photo.

The others I didn't know anyway...

Well, it wasn't a typical London shot. That would have been too easy. A few people thought it was Paris.
